Swansea Council’s annual fireworks display will be held in Singleton Park on Thursday 5 November, with gates opening at 5pm and the main display starting at 7.30pm.
Last year’s display took place at St Helen’s Ground. This year’s event has a myths and magic theme, and the council says it will feature laser effects, fairies and wizards, walkabout characters, stage entertainment and fire display performers, who will greet visitors as they arrive and put on a performance before the fireworks.
Pre-show entertainment begins at 5.30pm and the fire show at 6.45pm. The fireworks are due to run from 7.30pm to 7.50pm, and the event closes at 8pm.
Advance tickets cost £6 for adults, £5 for children and concessions and £4 for Passport to Leisure (PTL) holders. A family ticket for four costs £13 and a family ticket for five costs £15.
On the day, prices rise to £7 for adults, £6 for children and concessions and £5 for PTL holders, with family tickets for four and five costing £18 and £20.
The family of four ticket covers two full-price and two concession tickets, while the family of five ticket covers two full-price and three concession tickets. The family price is applied automatically at checkout.
PTL is the council’s discount scheme for Swansea residents on a low income. Cardholders will need to show their PTL card on the night.
Online tickets are on sale until midnight on Wednesday 4 November. After that, tickets can be bought at the gate on the day, subject to availability, although the council says the event is “likely to sell out in advance”.
Event parking is available at Singleton Lacrosse Field and the Recreation Ground, both at postcode SA2 0AU, at £5 per vehicle, payable on arrival. The car parks open at 4pm and there is no overnight parking.
Pantycelyn Road and Nicander Parade will be closed along their full length on the evening of the event. Brynmill Terrace, between the Co-op and Mumbles Road, will close for about 30 to 45 minutes between 7.45pm and 8.45pm to allow visitors to leave, and vehicles will not be able to leave the Lacrosse Field car park until it reopens. The council says an alternative route will be signposted and residents’ access will be maintained as long as it is safe to do so.
An accessible viewing area will be provided in the park on a first come, first served basis, and limited accessible parking is available at the event car parks, also on a first come, first served basis.
Fireworks and sparklers are not allowed, and dogs are not permitted at the display. The council has asked people not to leave pets in their cars.
Food and drink vendors and portable toilets will be on site, and St John Ambulance crews will be present throughout the event, with a first aid station in the event arena.
The council says the display will go ahead in the rain, but it may be delayed or postponed if it becomes too windy or visibility is reduced by low cloud or fog. Any changes will be announced on social media.
Access to Singleton Hospital and Swansea University will not be affected.
The council’s travel information warns that industrial action is planned by First Bus from 5 to 8 November, which will lead to service disruptions.
The event is supported by the Childcare Offer for Wales. Tickets and full details are available at www.visitswanseabay.com/swansea-fireworks-display.
