Things to do in Cardiff this year

Looking for something to do now that you don’t have to keep two metres from everybody? Your bubble is popped, so enjoy the experience with any one of our top picks for events in Cardiff this year.

Party in the Park

Held in the beautiful Tredegar Park, the coveted Party in the Park is back, with only a three-week delay making revellers eager with anticipation.

There’s a star-studded line-up to make folk missing out jealous, especially for 90’s babies. East 17, 5ive, S Club Party, Martin Kemp, Paul Young and more to be announced are expected to set the stage ablaze in the festival.

The Party in the Park has expanded too, with its biggest line-up yet, more bars, new arenas, and VIP experience to entice you to your first festival post-lockdown.

Fight Night

“16 competitors, 8 fights, 3 rounds, 2 minutes.”

Fight Night finally returns in December with its biggest ever instalment. After a long eight weeks of training with professional coaching, 16 university students will put the gloves on for a night of boxing that will claim only one winner. There’s still time to sign up if you have a rivalry you think you should air.

The show will be followed by a legendary after party, this year hosted by Mode Cardiff. VIP options are available for those looking for a ring-side table. The bell rings on Tuesday December 7th.

The Festival of Comedy

British comedy juggernauts Bill Bailey, Ed Byrne, Reginald D Hunter, Helen Bauer and more unite in this gluttonous festival of way too many laughs. Joining them are Gary Delaney, Jarred Christmas, Robert White, and Barry Castagnola. With so much going on, you’re going to feel like Lady Luck in the casino with so much choice. You can’t lose.

In Tredegar Park a live house band, a fun fair, bars, and shisha all add to the comedy experience brought to you by The Giggling Goat and Just the Tonic on August 13.

The Big Welsh Wedding Show

If you’re busy planning your big day, or even just have a bad case of wishful thinking, grab a ticket to The Big Welsh Wedding Show. Run by Francesca Hill Photography and priding themselves on being “anything but traditional”, the fair showcases creative, stylish, and unique wedding aspects to make your day as memorable as possible.

Grab a welcome pack at the door, a glass of Prosecco inside and enjoy the live music and entertainment of the fair as you browse the aisles of items that could take your wedding to the next level.

The Cardiff Reggae Festival

Soon Cardiff will be alive with the sound of steel drums as the UK’s biggest reggae festival swings into town.

On August 14 the VSA Warehouse will be filled with Caribbean food stalls and rum stands as revellers enjoy the music of General Levy, Mad Professor, Mungo’s Hi Fi, Solo Banton, Prince Fatty & Horseman and The Marley Revival Experience.

Shangri-la Cardiff

Buzz is already spreading for this open-air festival held in Cardiff Castle. Pre-sale tickets have already sold out with the line-up yet to be released but with names such as Jamie Jones and Skream showing up at previous festivals, music lovers aren’t likely to be disappointed.
