The Welsh Mountain Zoo has welcomed a capybara, the world’s largest rodent and the public is being invited to help name him as part of a special fundraising campaign. The campaign is now live with all naming suggestions welcomed for the seven month old male, who is settling comfortably into his new home. Cardiff and Vale College’s Rugby Academy Development team has been crowned WRU Development cup champions. The Academy travelled to Rodney Parade in Newport for the league final against Coleg Gwent. The team was predominantly made up of first year learners, but there were also some second year learners getting once last outing in their CAVC jersey before finishing with the Academy. South Wales Police is appealing for further victim-survivors to come forward following the conviction of former bishop Anthony Pierce for multiple child sex offences. The 84 year old, from Swansea Vale, pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent assault on a child under the age of 16 at Swansea Crown Court in February 2025. Pierce, the former Bishop of Swansea and Brecon, was sentenced to four years and one month in prison. Police are investigating an assault involving a father and son in St Mellons after they were attacked by a large group of teenagers on Wednesday evening. Officers from South Wales Police said the incident happened at around 7pm on May 6 in Cathcob Fields behind Tesco in St Mellons. A 60 year old man and his 28 year old son were assaulted by the group, with witnesses describing some of those involved as wearing balaclavas and riding e-bikes. A man has been jailed after being found with approximately 180 deals of cocaine worth £20,000 inside his home. Daryl Bees, 33 from Tonypandy, was sentenced to three years and six months in prison following his conviction. The sentencing took place on Wednesday, May 6, at Swansea Crown Court where Bees pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and being concerned in the supply of cocaine. This follows an investigation after officers received intelligence of a possible cocaine dealer living in Tonypandy.
