Wales’ Celtic rainforests will get a new lease of life this autumn with £8.6m of funding backed by the European and Welsh Government. Through the eradication of invasive alien plant species and the implementation of proactive management the aim is to bring these woodlands back to their former fertile state. World famous drag queen, Courtney Act, closed the show in incredible style at Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend’s finale last night (Sunday 26 August). Cardiff Bay was alive with action over the Bank Holiday weekend, as two boats capsized within moments of each other on the Extreme Sailing Series™ racecourse. [aoa id=”1″] [/aoa] Charging downwind on the third race of the day (race 19), the Omani boat and Team Wales were both caught by strong 20 knot gusts that caused their hulls to become submerged and a cartwheel capsize to ensue. The environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy is launching an exciting project which will help keep Wales’ streets clean by turning chewing gum waste into beach products. Continuing their partnership with Gumdrop Ltd, the first company in the world to recycle and process chewing gum, Keep Wales Tidy have designed branded bucket and spades sets entirely made from the recycled gum material. The innovative project hopes to highlight the problem of chewing gum on our streets while producing sustainable products from the waste collected. Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend 2018 continues in Cardiff, with the famous Pride Parade and over 15,000 attendees at the yesterday’s event (25 August).
