Christmas is in full swing across Cwmdare, and this weekend saw Santa pay a special visit to children and their families as he made his way through the village on his sleigh. Santa and his elves meandered through the village streets, spreading festive cheer as they delivered gifts to youngsters. A Bridgend man has been disqualified from keeping all animals for 10 years after he caused unnecessary suffering to a female bull breed dog. Roxy was handed into Hope Rescue in Llanharan as a stray. She was emaciated and had pressure sores. The charity contacted the RSPCA after information had come to them following an appeal which identified a possible owner. Following veterinary care and rehabilitation at Hope Rescue, Roxy – now named Mia – has recovered fully and has been happily rehomed. A former police officer who was sacked before being sentenced to life in prison for online child sex offences has appeared in court charged with further offences. Lewis Edwards, 24, from Bridgend, was jailed in October 2023 for 161 offences which included inciting children to make indecent images online and to engage in sexual activity. He was charged with perverting the course of justice by concealing mobile phones and three further charges of possession of indecent images. Neath Port Talbot Council, working with Powys County Council and CADW, have brought an ancient aqueduct back to life as part of a complex, sympathetic restoration project. Neath Port Talbot Council’s Engineering Team, in consultation with Powys County Council and CADW, planned the successful reconstruction of the Ystalyfera Aqueduct parapet wall which was being seriously damaged by vegetation. The wall has been rebuilt and re-pointed with locally sourced stone and lime mortar which matches the existing structure as closely as possible. RCT Cabinet has given final consideration to the proposed school organisation changes in Tonyrefail and Trallwn, following consultation on the respective proposals. Having considered all of the information presented by officers, Members have decided not to proceed with the proposals. Two separate reports were discussed at the Cabinet meeting on Monday, December 16.
