All GP practices across Bridgend county borough have offered to take part in delivering the coronavirus vaccine programme. The AstraZeneca vaccine, which is easier to use in care homes and GP surgeries as it is stored at normal fridge temperatures, began to be rolled out in the county borough this week with some of the first doses given at Oak Tree Surgery in Brackla. Hospitality, tourism and leisure businesses across Merthyr Tydfil are being urged to act quickly to apply for grants of up to £20,000 to help them bounce back from Covid-19. RCT Council is consulting residents about a proposed scheme to improve road safety throughout Cilfynydd – and those interested in sharing their views are invited to do so before the process closes on January 15. The region’s first coronavirus local testing site became operational in Rhymney at the weekend to help combat the spread of the virus within the community. The facility replaces the existing mobile testing unit (MTU) which has been operating at the former Aldi site on Old Brewery Lane in Rhymney over recent weeks. The Lakeside Wing, based on the grounds of the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) site, accepted its first patient as of 27 December 2020. The patient was transferred across from the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s main Hospital site to the Lakeside Wing to start their rehabilitation as they enter the recovery stage of their treatment.
