Caerphilly County Borough Council is appealing for residents to support their local food bank during the festive season. Food banks provide emergency food and support to families and individuals who find themselves in financial crisis.  They rely heavily upon donations, particularly during the Christmas period, and have seen demand for their support increase as a result of the pandemic. The Council is asking residents to buy an extra item of non-perishable food during their usual shop and place it at one of the county borough’s donation points.  Christmas items are particularly encouraged, such as cakes, chocolates and children’s selection boxes.…

Caerphilly County Borough Council, Firefly Cinema Club and Rainbow Valley Productions are pleased to announce that Owen Money will be bringing his much-loved Christmas pantomime to Blackwood this year; but with a twist for 2020! Despite Covid-19 restrictions preventing the pantomime taking place at its usual Blackwood Miners’ Institute home, event organisers have worked together to plan a cinema style drive in screening to make sure families can still enjoy this festive tradition. A new play area at Llanharan Primary School has been dedicated to remember much-loved former pupil Cian Case – with members of his family attending the school to officially open ‘Cian’s Playground’. On Monday, November 16, Cian’s parents Lorraine and Richard, along with his brother and sister Dylan and Bethany who attend Y Pant School, officially opened the school’s new outdoor space by cutting a ribbon at the playground. From next week (Tuesday 1 December) NHS Wales’ free flu vaccination will be available for anyone aged 50 or over, it has been announced. Earlier this year the Welsh Government committed to the roll-out of Wales’ largest ever influenza vaccination programme to protect people from the risks of flu. The Welsh Government secured nearly 460,000 additional vaccines for 2020/21 and these are currently being made available to all GP practices and community pharmacies in Wales. COLEG CAMBRIA is among the first 10 institutions in the UK to be recognised for its work as part of a transformational project with young adult carers. The college has received QSCS (Quality Standard in Carer Support) accreditation from The Learning and Work Institute for its role in the Driving Change initiative. Chief Superintendent Stephen Jones has headed north to become the new Divisional Commander of Mid Glamorgan – South Wales Police’s newly formed division created earlier this year which covers Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil. He takes over from Chief Superintendent Dorian Lloyd, who will retire before the end of the year after 30 years at South Wales Police. Welsh law firm Geldards LLP has completed the relocation of its head office to Cardiff’s flagship Capital Quarter development. Geldards will occupy more than 24,000 square feet of space at No.4 Capital Quarter on a ten-year lease.
