Merthyr County Borough Council has been handed the keys to the new Merthyr Tydfil bus interchange by main contractor Morgan Sindall ahead of the building’s opening next month. All bus services will transfer from the current station in Victoria Street to the new site in Swan Street, which will also feature a base for South Wales Police, independent café Bradleys and takeaway coffee shop Milk & Sugar.  The interchange is then expected to open in mid-May. Residents in the Cefn Fforest and Blackwood areas are being asked to give their views on proposals to install a new skate park on the Showfield site. Caerphilly County Borough Council is carrying out consultation on the proposals as part of its Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) programme, which will see around £260 million invested into tenants’ homes and their local communities. Newport City Council has pledged its support for Plantlife’s No Mow May campaign. The campaign encourages individuals, councils and stakeholders to help bees, butterflies and other wildlife by letting wild flowers grow on lawns and green spaces throughout May instead of mowing them. The new Chief Nursing Officer for Wales (CNO) has been confirmed as Sue Tranka, who will join the Welsh Government in summer 2021. Sue’s appointment follows the retirement of Dr Jean White who held the CNO role for ten years. BT has connected four grassroots football clubs in Wales with broadband (Wi-Fi) and provided digital skills training, as clubs and their communities look to recover from the COVID-19 crisis. Students, staff and parents at Llanishen High School have raised a significant sum, over £6000, by completing a virtual challenge to travel to Patagonia in March. The challenge involved walking, running, cycling and scooting the 12,000 miles it would take to reach Patagonia, the only other Welsh speaking country in the world. It was completed as part of City Hospice’s 100 Heroes Challenge. The innocent Big Knit campaign has returned and Age Cymru is calling on the knitters and crocheters throughout Wales to get their knitting needles out to help raise urgent funds for older people most in need. This is the 18th year that innocent has been running the Big Knit in partnership with Age Cymru and woolly warriors are needed again this year to craft some little hats to sit on innocent smoothie bottles.
