A NUMBER of road closures will be in place on Sunday (September 16) to ensure the safety of runners for the annual Admiral Swansea Bay 10k. [aoa id=”1″] Around 5,000 runners are expected to take part in the main race, which starts outside St Helen’s Ground at 1pm and heads west along Mumbles Road to Oystermouth Car Park where the runners turn and head back along the promenade towards the starting point. Cardiff and Vale College’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) has become affiliated to the 157 (Welsh) Transport Regiment of the Royal Logistics Corps. The affiliation took place at a special ceremony at Maindy Barracks in Cardiff, home of the 157 (Welsh) Regiment RLC. School children have helped a Cowbridge café clear out its wishing well in aid of terminal illness charity Marie Curie. Swansea University is establishing a partnership with Columbia University in New York, one of the USA’s leading universities, which will encourage wider research collaboration and other benefits such as possible student exchanges. Three thrill-seeking intellectual property experts have abseiled 80 metres down one of the UK’s tallest sculptures to generate funds for people with brain injuries. The daring team, from leading intellectual property firm Wynne-Jones IP, have taken on the ArcelorMittal Orbit in Stratford, London. Recognised as the UK’s highest freefall abseil standing at 262 feet high, the sculpture is taller than the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Statue of Liberty, and Big Ben.
