The moment has arrived – the names put forward for this year’s Sport Pembrokeshire Awards have been revealed. A total of 271 nominations were received in 13 categories for individuals and teams involved in a variety of different sports across the County. The three finalists in each category will be announced on the Sport Pembrokeshire Facebook page on 14th November. The overall winners will be unveiled at a gala ceremony at Folly Farm on 28th November, organised by Sport Pembrokeshire. The awards are sponsored by Valero, Folly Farm, and Pure West Radio. Construction work is set to get underway soon at Islwyn High School in Oakdale, marking the start of an exciting project to deliver a new multi-use games area (MUGA) and a specialist pupil support centre. The scheme, approved by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet in 2024, will see around £950,000 invested into the improvements. McAvoy has been appointed to carry out the work, with the project being managed by Caerphilly Homes, the Council’s housing division.  Work is scheduled to begin on 27 October 2025, with completion expected in the new year. Welsh farming families will benefit from stronger TB controls as cattle with previous inconclusive test results will have lifetime movement restrictions from January 2026. Following a request from industry and subsequent independent expert advice it has been previously announced that there will be a change in Inconclusive Reactor (IR) policies. A unique 7¼ inch gauge live steam model of locomotive No. 7 Owain Glyndŵr has joined the collection at The Vale of Rheidol Railway in Aberystwyth. The model, built in 1969 by master coppersmith and renowned model engineer Harry Powell, has been transferred from the National Railway Museum in York.
