Cardiff residents are complaining of a build up of recycling bags on city streets as rubbish fails to be collected since Christmas. Every year there is inevitably an increase in recycling bags following the Christmas and New Year period as people unwrap gifts. However, this year in particular, there is an estimated 400 tonnes of additional recycling waste that has to be collected by refuse collectors. South Wales Police is investigating a Fatal Road Traffic Collision, which occurred at about 3.45am this morning (6 January) on the westbound carriageway of the M4 motorway between junctions 30 and 32, Cardiff The incident involved a Renault articulated HGV and a male pedestrian. Sadly the man was declared deceased at scene and his family are being supported by a specially trained liaison officer. The census is a once in a decade survey that gives us the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. It has been carried out every decade since 1801, with the exception of 1941. Patients in Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend are among the first in Wales to have received the new Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in their own doctors’ surgeries. Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB began its latest vaccination rollout this week (Monday 4th January) in another turning point in the fight against this pandemic. CTM UHB has been vaccinating its frontline staff with the Pfizer vaccine since early December last year. Swansea Council has set up a £100,000 fund aiming to make a difference by directing cash to projects tackling food poverty or addressing food insecurity.  Applications supporting community growing projects are also welcomed. Residents are being reminded to follow alert level four restrictions as more than 10,000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Bridgend county borough since the beginning of the pandemic. A total of 10,079 cumulative cases were recorded by Public Health Wales as of 9am on Sunday, 3 January. The county borough has a population of about 147,000. More than 6,000 of those cases have been confirmed since the beginning of December with a new, highly-infectious strain of Covid-19 circulating. RCT Council is providing a free local shuttle bus service for residents, running hourly between Mountain Ash Railway Station and Perthcelyn, while an extensive resurfacing scheme is carried out at Glamorgan Street. Work to resurface Glamorgan Street has been brought forward to minimise disruption as much as possible, with traffic levels currently lower due to the COVID-19 Alert Level 4 restrictions being in place.
