Ambitious plans to open up more Swansea waterways for boat travel took a big step forward today. A report into the possibility of creating new ways to travel from the mouth of the River Tawe up the Swansea Valley and towards Neath was unveiled. Award-winning pet food company Burns Pet Nutrition has launched a brand new support group exclusively for owners of overweight and obese dogs. The aptly named Hounds Dropping Pounds weight loss group was launched on the social media platform Facebook early in January as a way to combat the growing crisis of overweight pets in the UK. Construction work is set to begin this week on making Swansea’s Wind Street a more family-friendly environment. South Wales contractor Griffiths will undertake Swansea Council’s work to improve the city centre venue. It follows consultation with local businesses and residents. More than half of people who had to self-isolate felt it negatively affected their mental health with more than a quarter saying it negatively affected their income, Swansea University research has revealed. A study also found that 75 per cent those self-isolating said no one from the contact tracing service checked on their wellbeing while they isolated and 60 per cent either hadn’t heard about the £500 self-isolation support scheme or didn’t know how to apply for it. Caerphilly County Borough Council has unveiled plans to provide new and improved car parking for tenants living in flats at Risca Road, Crosskeys. The Council is investing over £100,000 into the plans as part of its Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) programme; which will see a total investment of £260 million made into tenants’ homes and communities throughout the Caerphilly county borough.
