The Play in the Park summer programme has been hailed a success, with events running from 1st August at Welfare Park, Senghenydd, and concluding on 27th August at Blackwood Showfield. Despite the unpredictable British summer weather, only one out of the eight scheduled sessions had to be cancelled, allowing children and families to enjoy a summer filled with play and community spirit. The by-election is taking place to fill the county council and town council vacancy following the death of Michael Williams in July. Health Secretary Mark Drakeford has today confirmed £7.7m to upgrade the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery as it marks its 30th anniversary. The funding will improve facilities at the centre of excellence at Morriston Hospital, in Swansea, which supports a population of 10m people from Aberystwyth to Oxford. The centre provides specialist care to more than 1,000 people every year – half of whom are children – including people who have suffered the most severe burns. As children return for the new school year, the Welsh Government has confirmed that all pupils in maintained primary schools across Wales are now able to receive a free school meal from this week. The roll-out of the programme has now been completed across Wales, meaning every child up to and including Year 6 is now able to receive a free school meal every school day.
